Severe Weather

  1. thunderstorm - a storm with thunder and lightning and usually heavy rain
  2. lightning - a bright flash of electricity produced by a thunderstorm
  3. thunder - a loud rumbling or crashing noise heard after a lightning flash
  4. tornado - a powerful storm with rotating winds that forms over land
  5. Enhanced Fujita Scale (EF Scale) - a scale that measures the strength of tornadoes
  6. hurricane - a large ocean storm with strong rotating winds and heavy rain
  7. storm surge - the rise in seawater level caused by a storm, causing severe flooding
  8. eye - the center of a hurricane that the winds rotate around
  9. flood - a rising and overflowing of a body of water especially onto dry land
  10. flash flood - sudden flooding that happens when water rises rapidly with no warning within several hours of an intense rain
  11. blizzard - a long-lasting snowstorm with very strong winds and intense snowfall
  12. whiteout - a weather condition when the ability to see is decreased because of snow
  13. drought - a long period of time of little or no rain
  14. famine - a severe shortage of food
